My hair du jour : back in the days...

J'ai pris ces photos en avril dernier. À l'époque, je pouvais encore laisser mes cheveux tomber sur les épaules, sans que mes 5-6 cm de repousses naturelles (mes cheveux sont naturellement... comme ça), ne dénotent trop. Aujourd'hui, avec mon bon 10 cm d'afro à la base, ce n'est plus aussi évident...

I shot these back in April, when I still could wear my hair down, without my 2 inches new growths being that much of a fuss, stylewise (my hair is naturally... like that).
Today, with about 4 inches of afro new growths, it is no longer as conveniant...

Château Rouge...

Château Rouge est un quartier de Paris, et comme à Château d'Eau, on y trouve pléthore de boutiques de cosmétiques et de produits capillaires afro. Quand j'étais étudiante, j'y étais conseillère capillaire et cosmétiques, et mon amie Sonia travaillait au KFC à côté. Douce époque...
Tout est loin d'y être rose, mais j'adore ce quartier. C'est l'Afrique à Paris.

Château Rouge est aussi le nom du nouvel album d'un artiste que je respecte : Abd Al Malik.
Un autre voyage en Afrique... Mais pas que. Avec l'hiver qui arrive, ça fait du bien. Le premier single : "Ma Jolie"...


Château Rouge is a neighborhood in Paris where you will find dozens of Afro beauty supplies stores, like in the Château d'Eau area. When I was a student, I used to work in that neighborhood as a beauty merchandise consultant, and my friend Sonia worked at the KFC nearby. Sweet memories...
It is far from being all nice, quiet and peaceful, but I love this neighborhood: it's your little Africa in Paris.

Château Rouge is also the title of a much respected artist, that I really appreciate myself: Abd Al Malik.
Another ticket to Africa... And even more. It is more than welcome as Winter is just around the corner. Comfort music, I should say...
The first single is called "Ma Jolie"...

Cool hair du jour : Alessio

Alessio est sauveteur en mer l'été, il passe ses journées à la plage. Du coup, il est blond l'été. Mais je ne lui ai pas demandé s'il s'habillait en rouge au travail...

Alessio is a lifeguard during the summer, so he spends his days on the beach. Which leads his mane to get blond in the summer. I didn't ask him if he wears red at work though...

Africa rising : Seydou Keita @ Louis Vuitton...

Pas totalement hors sujet, puisque ce blog traite aussi de photographie, l'exposition de Seydou Keita chez Louis Vuitton était... magnifique. Et c'est peu dire. En fait, cette exposition faisait partie d'une exposition globale "Africa Rising", organisée par Louis Vuitton. D'autres artistes Africains étaient également exposés. Mais j'avoue avoir été sur place spécifiquement pour ses photos. C'était aussi une présentation de la marque Edun.
Je ne savais pas que Louis Vuitton soutenait autant de projets artistiques de toutes sortes, souvent liés au voyage (inutile de parler des fameuses malles et de la baggagerie de la marque...). Je vais suivre cela désormais...
Un grand merci à la formidable Anne Dorothea de la presse chez Vuitton pour la visite et le voyage ! Elle est du Danemark, comme Shade !

Not that much of an off topic, since my blog is also about photography, the Seydou Keita exhibition at Louis Vuitton was... saying amazing would be an understatement. His photographs were actually part of a bigger exhibition Louis Vuitton was behind: "Africa Rising". The works of other fabulous African artists were displayed as well, together with a presentation of the Edun clothing line. But I have to admit I went there mainly to enjoy Seydou Keïta's work.
I had no idea Louis Vuitton supported pletora of artistic projects of all kinds! They often are related to travelling (LV and his legendary trunks and luggage...). I definitely will keep an eye on that.
A big thank you to the wonderful Anne Dorothea, from the Vuitton PR for the visit / journey. She is from Denmark, like Shade!
On to the exhibition...


L'expo s'est tenue sur 3 niveaux.
The exhibition took place on 3 levels.


Rez de chaussée, intérieur : photos de Seydou Keita + scutptures peintes de George Lilanga.
Ground floor, indoors : Seydou Keita photography + George Lilanga's painted sculptures.












1er étage, film d'information et making-of Edun (que je n'ai malheureusement pu voir...) + exposition de beaux livres sur un magnifique mobilier de bois et de carton.
1st floor: Edun making-of and instructional video (that I unfortunately didn't manage to watch...) + art books displayed on an amazing wood and cardboard furniture.












2ème étage : quelques pièces de la collection Edun, et projection du défilé de mode.
2nd floor: a few pieces of the Edun collection, and a video of the fashion show.
